The 6 Characteristics
These are the 6 characteristics lustre, colour, hardness, streak, crystal structure, cleavage and fracture.
-Lustre is how shiny the rock or mineral is either metallic (shiny) or non-metallic (not shiny) (helps know what rock is what)
-Colour is obviously what the colour of the rock is (helps tell the differences of the rock)
-Hardness is how hard the rock is (also tells the difference)
-Streak is scraping a rock on a softer surface (helps tell the difference)
-crystal structure is the shape of the rock mineral (also helps tell the difference)
-Cleavage fracture if rocks break and inside is flat that’s called cleavage fracture is when they don't have flat sides its called fracture
